What Is AI Search Visibility

AI search visibility is how often an answer engine names your brand and cites your pages when a buyer asks a question in your category. It depends on being findable, parseable and quotable, in that order.

Ranking well helps, because assistants draw heavily on pages that already rank. It is not sufficient on its own, since a page that buries its answer in paragraph nine rarely gets quoted.

How This Scorecard Works

The formula: Question score = 0 for No, 1 for Partly, 2 for Yes Raw score = sum of all ten question scores, max 20 Readiness score = raw score x 5, out of 100 Weakest area = lowest-scoring question, by category label Quick win = lowest-scoring question with the smallest effort weight

Effort weights are fixed per question. Schema, robots access and answer blocks carry low effort weights, while third-party listicle presence carries a high one.

Score Bands

ScoreBandWhat it means
80 to 100ReadyAssistants can find, parse and cite you. Work on third-party presence next
60 to 79CloseThe foundation is there. Structural fixes will move you quickly
40 to 59PartialYou are visible in search but hard to quote. Start with answer blocks and schema
Under 40InvisibleAssistants are naming your competitors. Begin with crawler access and comparison pages

How to Raise Your Score

Lead With the AnswerPut a direct, self-contained answer in the first 60 words of every section.
Ship the SchemaOrganization, Product and FAQ markup are a single afternoon of work and move several checks at once.
Publish the Comparison PagesAssistants shortlist vendors from pages that compare vendors.
Date Every StatisticA dated, sourced number gets chosen over an undated one.
Get Named on Third-Party RoundupsThese pages are cited constantly, and appearing on them is the slowest but highest-value fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I get my brand mentioned by ChatGPT?

Be present on the pages assistants cite. That means ranking pages of your own, plus mentions on third-party roundups and review sites in your category.

2. Does blocking AI crawlers hurt visibility?

Yes, for engines that respect the directive and fetch live pages. Check your robots file and your firewall rules before assuming you are open.

3. Is this score a prediction?

No. It measures readiness, not outcomes. Actual citation behavior varies by model and changes without notice.

4. How often should I rerun this?

Quarterly, or after any significant site change. Freshness and structure both drift over time.

5. Does schema really affect AI answers?

It removes ambiguity about what your company is and what it sells, which makes citation more likely. Treat it as necessary rather than sufficient.
