What Is Keyword Value

Keyword value is the revenue a single search term can produce once you rank for it, expressed annually. It combines search volume, the click share of your ranking position, and your own funnel conversion rates.

Volume alone is a poor way to prioritize. A term with 200 searches and buying intent frequently outranks a 20,000-volume term on revenue produced.

How This Calculator Works

The formula: Clicks / mo = search volume x CTR for the target position Leads / mo = clicks x visitor-to-lead rate Customers / mo = leads x lead-to-customer rate Annual pipeline value = customers per month x 12 x ACV Equivalent ad spend = clicks x 12 x cost per click Page payback (months) = page cost / (customers per month x ACV)

Position CTR uses the same directional curve as the SEO ROI Calculator. Branded and navigational queries behave differently, so treat those separately.

How to Raise a Keyword's Value

Match the Page to the IntentA guide ranking for a comparison query converts poorly no matter how good the guide is.
Put the Answer Above the FoldBuyers on decision-stage terms want a verdict, not an introduction.
Add the Comparison TableTables earn snippets and get quoted by answer engines, which raises effective click share.
Cover the Long Tail Around ItOne page can capture dozens of related phrases if the sections are written for them.
Improve the Conversion PathDoubling the lead rate doubles this number without a single new visitor.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I find search volume for a keyword?

Ahrefs, Semrush and Google Keyword Planner all report it. Treat every figure as an estimate with a wide margin.

2. Why compare organic value to ad cost?

It gives you a number a finance team recognizes. It is a cost comparison rather than proof the two channels perform the same way.

3. Should I use cost per click if we do not run ads?

Yes. It still shows what the traffic is worth on the open market.

4. What conversion rate should I assume for a new page?

Start at 1 to 2 percent for awareness content and 3 to 6 percent for comparison pages, then replace the estimate with your own data.

5. Is one keyword ever enough to justify a page?

Sometimes. A single competitor comparison term with high intent can pay for its page inside a quarter.
